Awarded an Honorary PhD of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in the ceremonial hall of the university in the spring of 2023 was NikosGalis, for his outstanding contribution to sport and culture, as well as for his valuable services to society.

"I have been honored by many, but because I grew up and studied in America and I didn't have the opportunity to go to a Greek school, so for me to be awarded an honorary doctorate from the Aristotle University is a special honor, an honor I will never forget. I want to believe that I have set a good example to young children and to the world of how to be a good professional and I want the children to remember me as a hard worker who did his job well in the court. When the kids ask me how I did this and how I did that, I answer that it's great to chase your dream, but know that it takes a lot of sacrifice, hard work, talent, and I also say that what will stay with you forever is education and morals, so make sure you study first."
